A total of 2.3 million tourists visited Armenia in 2023, a 37.7% increase compared to 2022 and a 21.6% increase compared to 2019, according to Armenia’s Tourism Committee.

50% of the 2.3 million tourists came from Russia, 11% from Georgia, 6% from Iran, and 3% from the U.S. Only 58,700 tourists visited Armenia from the U.S., which has a diaspora community of over 1 million Armenians.

In December 2023, 132,709 tourists visited Armenia, up from 130,429 in 2022 and 110,685 in 2019.

“We have many tourists from India now who arrive from Dubai. Germany and France are still important target markets for us, and China is in the top ten countries,” said Sisian Boghossian, the Head of the Tourism Committee.

Here is a breakdown of the 2.3 million tourist arrivals per country in 2023:

Russia: 50%, 1.2 Million

Georgia: 11%, 255,300

Iran: 6%, 150,000

USA 3%, 58,700

India 1.5%, 34,600

Germany 1%, 27,700

France 1%, 27,700

Ukraine: 1%, 26,700

China: 1%, 19,600

Belarus: 1%, 17,700

Other: 23.5%

According to the methodology of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), an international tourist is considered to be any person who travels for rest, medical treatment, to visit relatives, business, religious or travels for other purposes from their main place of residence to another location for not less than 24 hours and not more than one consecutive year.
