NewsArmeniaYerevan Mayor Elections: 5 Candidates Passed Yerevan City Council Election Threshold, Avinyan And The Ruling Party Failed To Reach 50% Votes

The Central Electoral Commission has published the preliminary results of the Yerevan Council of Elders elections. Top votes were distributed as follows:

“Public Voice” party: 9.68%

“Civil contract”: 32.57%

“National progress”: 18.89%

“Republic”: 11.32%

“Mother Armenia” alliance: 15.43%

32.57% of voters (75,463 votes) voted for the ruling CP. This does not give the CP the opportunity to independently elect the mayor of Yerevan. The “Republic” party, which did not rule out a coalition with it, also received 11.32%. According to preliminary calculations, they will have 24 and 8 votes in the 65-seat Council of Elders, the total number of votes of the other forces is 33. The mayor of Yerevan will be elected by the council of elders.

234,553 or 28.46% of 824,250 voters took part in the Yerevan Council of Elders elections. For comparison, in September 2018, 370,323 participated in the elections of the council of elders, which is 43.65% of the total number of voters. The turnout in the 2017 elections was 40.99% or 345,226 eligible voters voted.
