At the special session of the National Assembly of Artsakh on September 9, Samvel Shahramanyan was elected president of the country by secret ballot. According to the Artsakh parliament, 23 deputies participated in the voting, 22 of them voted for and 1 voted against.

“As a result of the voting, the Armenian National Assembly has decided to elect Samvel Shahramanian as the Artsakh President,” the report said.

Samvel Shahramanyan has received congratulations from Homeland Party leader Artur Vanetsyan on his election as president of Artsakh. In his speech, Vanetsyan praised the election as evidence of the Artsakh people’s “sobriety, strong will, and steadfastness to face with unwavering determination the major challenges facing Artsakh.”

As a reminder, the Artsakh President Arayik Harutyunyan resigned on September 1. Harutyunyan informed that State Minister Gurgen Nersisyan was relieved of his post and Security Council Secretary Samvel Shahramanyan was appointed State Minister.
