The European Union is ready to assist Armenia and Azerbaijan when it comes to the delimitation of borders, as well as to play a positive role in establishing peace between the two countries, said Charles Michel, President of the European Council in a press conference following talks with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Baku today.
The statement by President of the European Council Charles Michel during a joint press conference with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Baku runs as follows,
“The European Union is ready to support efforts to make progress on various issues. For example, it is a question of delimitation of borders, and for this we are ready to provide European expert assistance and, if necessary and desired, European monitoring. As for the delimitation of borders, there is also the issue of the armed forces located close to the disputed areas.”
Michel said the EU supports the mediation activities of the OSCE, but added that this doesn’t stand in the EU’s way to share its experience, provide support to record more security, stability and mainly peace in the region, as well as to propose some ideas for possible progress in the peace process.
