Today, the European Union called for the immediate release of the 57 remaining Armenian prisoners-of-war in Azerbaijani captivity, said Peter Stano, the lead spokesman for the External Action Service of the European Union in a Twitter post.

“The European Union welcomes release of 5 servicemen captured by in November and calls for the immediate release of the 57 remaining in custody. This would contribute to building confidence between both countries which is important for lasting peace in the region,” said Peter Stano, the lead spokesman for the External Action Service of the European Union in a Twitter post.

On Thursday, Five Armenian prisoners-of-war returned to Yerevan with Russian mediation. They were among the 62 volunteers from Shirak province captured by Azerbaijan after the signing of the November 9 statement of the leaders of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan.
