Hundreds of Gagik Tsarukyan supporters and Prosperous Party MP’s have gathered outside and near the mansion of opposition Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) leader, MP, and business tycoon Gagik Tsarukyan.
All this gives the impression of déjà vu, the halls of power simply do not tolerate dissent, and act in the same way, with the same “handwriting.”
Opposition Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) MP Naira Zohrabyan, who is currently outside the mansion of PAP leader, MP and business tycoon Gagik Tsarukyan, together with several other PAP deputies, said this on her Facebook livestream Sunday morning.
To note, the National Security Service (NSS) is currently conducting a search in Tsarukyan’s mansion.
“The NSS is currently conducting a search here. According to the information we received, during the 2017 parliamentary elections, a majoritarian [election system] candidate—Vazgen was his name, I don’t remember his last name—as if there were some financial problems with that candidate during the elections, he had given gave money, what he did, the searchers couldn’t even explain it clearly. explain
All this gives the impression of déjà vu, at the moment there are NSS employees in the houses of many of our fellow party members, supporters, these halls of power simply do not tolerate dissent, they use the same methods, the same ‘handwriting;’ you can imagine the absurdity, what they have ‘excavated.’
The same story is repeated as in 2015; there is no difference. If they resort to such police repressions for expressing an opinion, then I have already informed all the international structures and embassies,” Zohrabyan said.
And PAP MP Gevorg Petrosyan added that this is a dictatorship and a political persecution, and he called on international law enforcement agencies to pay attention to these processes.
Ashot Andreasyan, chairman of the PAP Youth Union, told reporters that those gathered were not only party members but also other citizens who came to support Tsarukyan because they are sure that what is happening is political persecution.
This is obviously political persecution; there can be no second opinion here. Arman Abovyan, an MP of the opposition Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), on Sunday told this to reporters, adding that he has been at party leader, MP and business tycoon Gagik Tsarukyan’s mansion—together with some other PAP MPs—since the morning, where the National Security Service is conducting a search.
As per the PAP deputies there, according to their information, this search is connected with some document found at an MP candidate who was nominated from Martuni town in Gegharkunik province, during the 2017 parliamentary elections.
These PAP lawmakers are convinced, however, that this is actually political persecution in connection with Tsarukyan’s recent harsh criticism of the authorities, and therefore the latter are trying to silence them with widespread pressure.
According to Arman Abovyan, searches are currently being carried out in their party offices, too, particularly in their Gegharkunik office.
