The Republic of Armenia has confirmed 42 new coronavirus cases and its 18th death, on Friday, April 17, total cases now stand at 1,201, per Armenia’s Ministry of Health.

Out of the 1,201 total cases, 402 people recovered (44 Today) and 19 patients with underlying health conditions died. The remaining 780 are active cases, per Alina Nikoghosyan, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health. To date, 10,793 negative coronavirus tests have been conducted in Armenia, added Nikoghosyan.

A 58-year-old man has died of the coronavirus at the St. Gregory the Illuminator Medical Center in Yerevan, he suffered from pre-existing medical conditions such as bilateral pneumonia, he also had chronic diseases, such as ischemic heart disease, hypertension and obesity. Acute ST-elevation myocardial infarction was diagnosed during the treatment, per Alina Nikoghosyan, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health.

Today, a woman with the coronavirus gave birth to a baby in Armenia, per Arsen Torosyan, Minister of Health of Armenia. The woman tested negative after giving birth, the baby will be tested today, he said. “Fortunately, thanks to the professionalism of our doctors, the mother and baby feel good,” the Minister said. They will be under medical supervision for another 14 days.

Armenia has extended the state of emergency in the country by May 14 and restricted the movement of citizens.
