Armenia Coronavirus Cases Grow By 14, Country Total Hits 136.

The number of coronavirus cases in Armenia increased again by 14 on Friday, March 20, now standing at 136, the Minister of Health reported.

112 out of the 136 – more than 80% – cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) confirmed in Armenia so far are related to two primary carriers, according to Health Ministry spokeswoman Alina Nikoghosyan.

The first case is a woman who arrived from Italy amid the raging pandemic and attended a crowded engagement party in the town of Vagharshapat (aka Etchmiadzin). Dozens of people who were exposed to her before her isolation turned out to have contracted the disease and spread the virus further. In an effort to curb the coronavirus spread in Vagharshapat, was put under partial lockdown for several days to curb the spread of the virus in neighboring settlements.

The second case is an Italian national who, also, arrived in Armenia from Italy on business and had close contact with the employees of a production plant in Yerevan. The Italian has reportedly returned home, but only after infecting many others, per Public Radio of Armenia.

As many as 26 suspected patients tested positive on March 19 alone, according to the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Ministry of Health said it will provide updated information on the number of coronavirus cases on a daily basis, at 10am.

Armenia declared a 30-day state of emergency on Monday and banned citizens of 16 nations from entering the country in an effort to curb the spread of the virus. So far, one person has recovered from the coronavirus in Armenia.
