Armenia Considers Erecting Mahatma Gandhi Statue In Yerevan.

The Indian Embassy in Armenia has submitted a proposal to the Yerevan City Council on erecting a monument to Indian independence icon Mahatma Gandhi in Yerevan, City Council member Davis Zakharyan said in a Facebook post.

The proposal comes on the 150th birth anniversary of Gandhi, credited as “the father of the nation” among Indians. The Circular Park in downtown Yerevan or the park adjacent to the Republican Hospital are suggested as possible spots for the statue.

“Dear citizens of Yerevan, dear friends, I would like to know your opinion. On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th anniversary, the Council of Elders of Yerevan came up with a proposal from the Indian Embassy to propose to erect a statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Yerevan. Suggested venues are the Circle Park or the nearby Republican Hospital,” said David Zakaryan, Yerevan City Councilmember in a Facebook post.
