The “Wings of Tatev” cable car has once again been recognized as the “World’s Leading Cable Car Ride” at the prestigious World Travel Awards 2025, dubbed the “Oscars of the travel industry” and considered one of the most prestigious international awards in tourism. This marks Armenia’s fourth win in the category following victories in 2024, 2023, and 2021. Selected through an open vote and surpassing competitors from Bolivia, Brazil, Vietnam, Canada, New Zealand, the United States, and South Africa, the achievement coincides with the 15th anniversary of one of Armenia’s most significant tourism landmarks.
The victory of “Wings of Tatev” was announced in Bahrain during the official World Travel Awards 2025 ceremony. This year also marks the 15th anniversary of the cable car.
Since its launch, “Wings of Tatev” has become one of the main symbols of Armenian tourism. Built on the initiative of Ruben Vardanyan and listed in the Guinness World Records as the longest reversible cable car in the world at 5,752 meters, it has played a key role in the development of the Syunik region and Armenia as a whole, strengthening the country’s tourist appeal.
Today, every fifth tourist visiting Armenia comes to Syunik, and the region’s tourist flow has increased 17-fold since the cable car’s opening. Thanks to the project, private sector investments in the region have risen elevenfold, and the hospitality sector has expanded with around 40 new B&B guesthouses opening in the vicinity of Tatev and Goris.
“Wings of Tatev” has also opened access to the medieval Tatev Monastery, bringing new life to the region and turning it into a hub for travelers, cultural initiatives, and local businesses.
