During his working visit to New York, President of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan met with Franco Spicciariello, Director of Public Policy for the European Union and Mediterranean region at Amazon Web Services (AWS), and David Roth, Director of International Public Policy at Amazon.
The discussions focused on the development of high technologies and their applications in Armenia, highlighting the sector’s importance for economic growth, innovation, and competitiveness. The President emphasized the effective use of renewable energy, noting that it is not only crucial for energy security and sustainable development but could also serve as a reliable resource for advancing artificial intelligence (AI) and high-tech industries.
Opportunities for cooperation in cybersecurity were also addressed, recognizing its role as a key component of a resilient information society and effective public governance. Both sides stressed the importance of exchanging expertise, implementing joint programs, and introducing advanced tools to ensure a high level of cybersecurity.
President Khachaturyan praised AWS’s ongoing support for the activities of Armenia’s Virtual Institute of Artificial Intelligence. The parties also discussed the prospects of a joint program for integrating AI into public policy development, which could enhance government efficiency and foster an innovative policy culture in Armenia.
Earlier, in May, President Khachaturyan met with Jeff Barr, Vice President of AWS, underscoring Armenia’s ongoing collaboration with the tech giant. At that meeting, Barr emphasized AWS’s interest in deepening cooperation with Armenia, particularly in high technology, educational initiatives, and innovative solutions.
At the Concordia Summit, President Khachaturyan also met with George Logothetis, Executive Chairman of the Libra Group. The Libra Group, a privately held international business based in New York, has diversified interests in aviation, energy, shipping, hospitality, and real estate. Founded by Logothetis, the company is known for investing in long-term projects that promote sustainable growth and innovation.
During the meeting, the sides discussed opportunities for cooperation in high technologies, energy, and especially renewable energy. The President presented Armenia’s economic and investment priorities, emphasizing the country’s sustainable development agenda, where innovative solutions and green energy play a central role. They explored potential investment programs and the modernization of energy infrastructure, with particular attention to solar energy systems and their role in strengthening Armenia’s energy independence and efficiency.
Logothetis expressed warm regard for the Armenian people and highlighted Libra Group’s readiness to develop programs that contribute to Armenia’s economic and technological growth. Both parties underscored the importance of building mutually beneficial and long-term partnerships to strengthen Armenia’s economy and international cooperation.
