SportsMMAArmenia's Aleksanyan Crowned World Wrestling Champion For Fourth-Time

Armenia’s Artur Aleksanyan (97 kg) has been crowned world champion after defeating Bulgaria’s Kiril Milov 5:1 in the final, at the Greco-Roman World Championship in Belgrade, Serbia.

With his victory, Artur added to his medal cabinet which now boasts 4x World Championships, 1x Olympic gold, and 5x European Championships.

He previously won the World championship in 2014, 2015 and 2017.

The Armenian started the fight from the qualifying round (1/16 finals), where the opponent refused to fight, awarding the victory to Aleksanyan. In the 1/8 finals, Artur Aleksanyan defeated Turkey’s Metehan Bashar, a two-time world champion, and reached the quarter-finals, where he defeated Kyrgyzstan’s Beksultan Makhmudovi 9:0. In the semi-finals, Artur defeated defending world champion and the bronze medalist of the Tokyo Olympic Games, Mohammadhadi Saravi from Iran.

Artur is the second Armenian athlete to win a medal at the World Championships. 23-year old Malkhas Amoyan won a bronze medal in the Greco-Roman 77kg category earlier this week.
