Armenian-American actress Angela Sarafyan will play Superman’s biological mother, Lara Lor-Van, in James Gunn’s highly anticipated Superman film, set for release on July 11, 2025.
She will star alongside Bradley Cooper, who portrays Jor-El, Superman’s biological father. Together, they represent the final remnants of Krypton’s nobility, appearing in pivotal scenes that provide emotional gravity and narrative depth to Kal-El’s origin story. Sarafyan takes on the role of Lara during Krypton’s final moments, as she and Jor-El make the fateful decision to send their infant son to Earth—a choice that defines the trajectory of Superman’s life.
Known for her standout performance as Clementine Pennyfeather on HBO’s Westworld, Sarafyan brings emotional depth and intensity to a character whose brief presence plays a key role in shaping Superman’s moral foundation.
The film is written and directed by James Gunn, co-chair and CEO of DC Studios. David Corenswet stars as Clark Kent/Superman, with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
