The Georgian Football Federation has been fined 40,000 euros for the brawl during the Nations League match against Armenia on March 23, reports Public Radio of Armenia.
The issue was addressed at a meeting of the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Committee on April 9.
According to UEFA’s decision, the Georgian Football Federation was fined for fans storming the pitch, using laser lights and pyrotechnics, and blocking exits. In addition, the Georgian national team will be required to play one home match behind closed doors.
This punishment applies to competitions under UEFA’s disciplinary jurisdiction. It does not apply to friendly matches or qualifying matches for the 2025 World Cup scheduled for the autumn.
UEFA’s decision also includes a two-year probationary period. If similar violations occur within this time frame, the Georgian national team will again be required to play its next match behind closed doors.
The Nations League play-off match between Georgia and Armenia descended into chaos as fights broke out among fans following the game.
The host team, Georgia, had celebrated a 6-1 victory before tensions escalated post-match. The Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena in Tbilisi was overrun by hundreds of fans who stormed the pitch, bypassed security, and leapt over barriers.
Police intervened after objects were thrown between home and away supporters in the stands.
