NewsArmeniaVarazdat Lalayan Wins Silver, Gor Minasyan Earns Bronze In Men's +102 kg Weightlifting At 2024 Paris Olympics

Armenia’s Varazdat Lalayan has won a silver medal in the super heavyweight category at the 2024 Paris Olympics, achieving a total of 467 kg in the biathlon. Lalayan showcased his strength by lifting 215 kg in the snatch and 252 kg in the clean & jerk. Despite his impressive efforts, he fell short on his third snatch attempt at 218 kg and his final clean & jerk attempt at 256 kg.

Gor Minasyan, representing Bahrain, earned the bronze medal with a total lift of 461 kg. Minasyan successfully snatched 216 kg and lifted 245 kg in the clean & jerk, although he was unable to lift 220 kg in the snatch or 255 kg in his final two clean & jerk attempts. Minasyan, who previously represented Armenia and won a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics, made history by securing Bahrain’s first Olympic medal outside of athletics.

Both athletes were narrowly out-lifted by three-time Olympic gold medalist Lasha Talakhadze of Georgia, who claimed gold with a total lift of 470 kg.

Varazdat Lalayan’s silver medal is a significant achievement, adding to Armenia’s total medal count of four at the Paris Olympics. Earlier, wrestler Artur Aleksanyan and gymnast Artur Davtyan also won silver, while wrestler Malkhas Amoyan earned a bronze medal.

Let’s celebrate our athletes’ incredible achievements and their contributions to Armenia’s Olympic legacy! 🇦🇲
