Yerevan State University (YSU) has announced an open competition for sketch proposals for a statue of Zabel Yesayan, the distinguished Armenian writer, prose author, translator, publicist, and literary critic. The statue is planned for installation in the courtyard of the university’s central building, and proposals are open from June 22 through July 31, 2026.

YSU said interested individuals, creative groups, and organizations are eligible to participate. Each submitted proposal must contain detailed information and drawings covering the total cost of the statue’s design and construction, the construction timeline, and the material type, color, and dimensions.

The applications will be reviewed and evaluated in a closed session of the competition committee within ten days of the close of the submission period, with the confidentiality of participants maintained. All submitted proposals, including those the committee does not accept, will be displayed for seven days before the results are finalized and for seven days after the winners are announced.

The proposal awarded the grand prize will be adopted as the basis for construction, and a civil law contract will be signed with its author.

The prize fund totals 1,000,000 Armenian drams (about $2,600), with 500,000 drams (about $1,300) for the grand prize, 300,000 drams (about $780) for second place, and 200,000 drams (about $520) for third.
