Armenian judoka Vahe Aghasyan has won gold at the Tallinn European Open. The Armenian national team athlete claimed the title in the 60 kg weight category, reports Zartonk Media.

The tournament took place from June 6 to 7 in the capital of Estonia. The event served as the final European stop before the official reset of the Los Angeles Olympic cycle, drawing judokas from more than 30 nations.

The main success for the Armenian team came from Aghasyan, who competed in a 17-athlete field in the 60 kg category. He defeated Poland’s Ksawery Ignasiak in the final to reach the top step of the podium. Italy’s Pietro Andreini and Ukraine’s Denys Tupytskyi took the bronze medals in the category.

The win continues a strong run for Aghasyan, who is the reigning European Under-23 champion. He claimed that title in the 60 kg category at the 2025 European U23 Championships in Chi?in?u, Moldova, becoming only the second Armenian judoka to win gold at that level after Armen Nazaryan in 2003.

Armenia won a second medal through Gor Karapetyan, who claimed bronze in the 100 kg category. Latvia’s Maksims Duinovs won that division, with Ukraine’s Zaur Duniamaliiev taking silver.

Armenia was represented by six judokas in Tallinn, finishing with two medals, one gold and one bronze.

After competing in Estonia, the Armenian national team traveled to Pore?, Croatia, for a training camp.
