NewsArmeniaArmenian, Iranian Special Forces to Hold Joint Military Drills

From April 9 to 10, special forces units of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia and the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran will conduct a joint military exercise, reports the Armenian Ministry of Defense (MoD).

The Armenian unit will carry out its portion of the exercise on the territory of Armenia, while the Iranian unit will conduct its activities on the territory of Iran.

The exercise will focus on operations to neutralize simulated terrorist group attacks on border checkpoints located along the Armenia–Iran state border.

Deputy Commander of the Ground Forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Valiollah Mani, provided details about the joint exercise between the Armenian and Iranian special forces, stating that the drills are of a peaceful nature, reports Armenpress, citing IRNA.

Mani said, “The peace drills will be held for two days in the border region of Norduz. There is no threat to the border areas of the two countries, the Islamic Republic of Iran and Armenia. Accordingly, the name of these exercises is ‘Peace.’”

He stated that the main goal of the exercises is to strengthen border security.

“The border areas of the two countries are of strategic importance, given the vulnerable position of the region. We hope that the peaceful military exercises will be held in accordance with the set objectives and on schedule,” he added.
