U.S. President Donald Trump has appointed American-Armenian attorney Michael E. Kavoukjian as the next U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Norway. Trump made the announcement on Truth Social.

Trump said: “I am pleased to announce that Michael E. Kavoukjian will serve as the next United States Ambassador to the Kingdom of Norway,” calling him “a brilliant attorney” with extensive experience in international litigation, where he has led complex commercial litigation teams around the world.

Kavoukjian is a Senior Partner at White & Case, where he has led global litigation teams in high-stakes cross-border disputes involving trusts and estates, corporate law, and financial institutions. He has represented major corporate clients, including Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase, Citibank, Deutsche Bank, and Northern Trust. Practicing law for over 35 years, he previously served as head of the firm’s Global Private Clients Group from 2007 to 2019.

Before his legal career, Kavoukjian served the U.S. government from 1994 to 1998, including a role as special adviser to the U.S. Mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina. He also previously worked as an operations officer in the Directorate of Operations of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), where he served the country in a critical national security role.

A graduate of Stanford University and Harvard Law School, Kavoukjian is widely recognized for his expertise, holding a Band One ranking in Chambers and being listed in Best Lawyers in America and Euromoney’s Best of the Best. The Robb Report named him one of the top 100 attorneys in the U.S. He is also a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a member of the Board of Overseers of the Hoover Institution, and a director of the Jamestown Foundation.
