On July 17, Elmira Karapetyan made history by becoming the first athlete representing the Republic of Armenia to participate in the 2024 Summer Olympic Torch Relay in France.
This made Karapetyan the second Armenian in Olympic history to participate in the torch relay as a torchbearer. The first instance was 40 years ago during the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. However, Karapetyan is the first torchbearer from the Republic of Armenia, making her achievement even more historic.
The 2024 Paris Summer Olympic Games are set to begin on July 26 and will run until August 11, 2024. Paris is the main host city, with events held in 16 other cities across France. The Paris Olympics will feature 32 sports and award 329 medals.
Armenia will be represented by 15 athletes competing in 7 sports at the Olympic Games.
Boxer Davit Chaloyan was named Armenia’s flag-bearer for the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics on July 26.

Elmira Karapetyan, an Armenian Olympic shooter, is a bronze medalist at the European Championship, vice-champion of the European Games, and a World Cup winner. This will be Armenia’s eighth consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympics in the post-Soviet era.
