The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, declared that Russia is not an enemy of Armenia and never will be. She added that Moscow’s harsh reaction to Yerevan’s harsh statements is due to the fact that they are based on “falsehood or an attempt to distort the facts”.
“We paid attention not even to insults of a personal nature or tone, but to the fact that they were based on lies, inaccuracies or attempts to distort the facts. This is what prompted us to react and why the Armenian ambassador was invited to the Foreign Ministry,” said Zakharova.
She also warned about the danger of “the temptation to find the guilty” when “something doesn’t work out or doesn’t go that way”.
“It can also lead to disastrous consequences for the region, including Armenia,” she said.
“It was not Russia that recognized Baku’s rights to Artsakh, but the leadership of Armenia. The people of Armenia should decide how to deal with it. However, it is not necessary to place the blame and responsibility for the decisions made in Yerevan on Russia. There is no need to look for an enemy in Russia. Russia has never been Armenia’s enemy and never will be. It will never happen,” she emphasized.
