BREAKING: Tsarukyan Raises Armenian Flag After Defeating Frevola In UFC 257 Lightweight Match, Winning Via Unanimous Decision.

Arman Tsarukyan dominates Matt Frevola in UFC 257 lightweight match, winning via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-26) at the Etihad Arena on “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi, reports MMA Junkie.

Round 1 – The fight starts with a wild exchange between the two sides. Frevola gets a little too wild on a punch and Tsarukyan ducks under and secures a takedown. Frevola scoots to the fence and tries to stand up, but he gets tossed back to the ground. He tries to get a switch, but Tsarukyan is all over him and pulls him back down near the fence. Frevola finally stands up and frees himself of Tsarukyan’s grip. Tsarukyan pressures in open space and lands a slapping kick to the upper body of Frevola, who comes forward with a pair of winging hooks. Tsarukyan ducks under a punch or another takedown attempt, and Frevola tries to reverse it but they get clinched on the fence, where Tsarukyan lands a pair of knees to the body. Both men throw simultaneous spinning kicks in a wild sequence. Tsarukyan lands a hook, and Frevola comes back with one of his own that’s just shy of the target. They get into an exchange and Frevola tags Tsarukyan with a punch. Tsarukyan lands a hard punch but Frevola is staying in his face and lands a big overhand. They trade bombs to end the round, with Frevola shooting for a takedown in the weening moments, but it’s stuffed. Close round, but we’ll go 10-9 for Tsarukyan on the MMA Junkie scorecard.

Round 2 – Tsarukyan shoot for a takedown roughly 20 seconds into the round and is able to put Frevola down. Frevola gets up, but is dragged right back down from a body lock. Tsarukyan settles in to full guard, but Frevola is using his hips to try to make something happen from his back. Tsarukyan postures up and lands a couple short shots. Frevola spins out of the position and rises up to his feet, but Tsarukyan still has him wrapped up and is able to secure another takedown. Frevola battles mightily to stand back up, but Tsarukyan gets another nice trip and returns to top control. Tsarukyan has side control and briefly works toward a D’Arce choke, but he doesn’t have a good enough angle and gives up. Tsarukyan is chipping away with short shots from the half guard and is not giving Frevola much space. Tsarukyan dominates position from on top over the final minute. MMA Junkie scores the round 10-9 for Tsarukyan.

Round 3 – Frevola lands a straight right in the early stages of the round and that prompts Tsarukyan to shoo in for a takedown. He puts Frevola on his back, but only for a moment as pops back up and gets free. Tsarukyan lands an inside leg kick then evades a big right hand. Tsarukyan scores with a spinning back kick to the body, and Frevola tries to throw one back to the head, but misses. Tsarukyan connects on a jab, then a straight right hand. Frevola gets a jab though and he’s circling a lot. Tsarukyan shoots for another takedown, and it’s good. Frevola attacks with a guillotine choke from the back, but Tsarukyan has it well scouted and pops his head out. They get into a wild scramble and it returns to the feet. Tsarukyan lands a pair of nice jabs, then ducks under a winging punch from Frevola to get a huge slam. He quickly transitions to the back and is working for a rear-naked choke. Frevola is doing everything he can to get back up and get free, but Tsarukyan is all over him and not letting up from top position. Tsarukyan puts an exclamation point but moving into mount in the final seconds and keeping Frevola down and landing punches. MMA Junkie scores the round 10-9 for Tsarukyan, who wins 30-27 on our scorecard.
